JSIA

Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA), India’s first Global Policy School, aims to enhance Indian and international capacities to analyse and solve world problems. It intends to strengthen India’s intellectual base in international relations and affiliated social science disciplines that have hitherto been largely neglected by Indian academic institutions. JSIA will commence in August 2011 with a degree programme called a Master of Arts in Diplomacy, Law and Business [M.A. (DLB)]. The programme is the first of its kind in Asia, drawing upon the resources of global faculty to create a unique interdisciplinary pedagogy.

JSIA has faculty members with outstanding international education backgrounds, scholarships, experience and orientation in the disciplines of International Relations, International Law and International Business. JGU has assembled faculty members from some of the most reputed higher education institutes of the world including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Virginia, University of Manchester, Stanford University, Yale University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Australian National University, New York University and Nottingham University. Combined with the world class infrastructure and facilities provided to the students on our sprawling 60-acre campus in the outskirts of Delhi, high class faculty makes JSIA a unique institution in India.

We equip our students in the M.A (DLB) programme with deep academic knowledge about world affairs, practical skills and techniques in diplomacy and business so as to prepare them for international careers. Internships in the United Nations system, other intergovernmental, regional and non-governmental organisations, fnancial institutions, think tanks and diplomatic missions of various countries are stepping stones for full-fedged careers in international public service. A special Future Diplomats Development Programme, manned by experienced practitioners who have profound knowledge and connections within intergovernmental and non-governmental sectors, will be available at JSIA to assist students in fnding the right internships in global policy making or opinion forming institutions.JSIA’s numerous worldwide collaborations with think tanks, research institutions, international organisations and diplomatic missions will be leveraged to help students spend the summer breaks in relevant bodies in Delhi, SAARC country capitals, Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The curriculum of the M.A. (DLB) includes a mandatory Guided Internship
requirement that will go a long way into preparing outgoing graduates for careers in the multiple opportunities afforded by ever-expanding career streams like peace and confict resolution, international justice, international development, humanitarian relief, human rights advocacy, political and economic risk analysis etc. A graduate passing out of JSIA will be a versatile international affairs professional.

JSIA was launched last year through a strategic partnership with the United Nations University (UNU)’s Institute for Sustainability and Peace and it has a student exchange partnership with Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) for semester abroad programmes.

JSIA offers the perfect training ground and platform for Dominican students who have the potential for leadership and capacity in the realms of diplomacy and global policymaking. We will accept Dominican men and women (there is no upper age limit) who have completed a Bachelors degrees in any discipline from a recognised university in the Dominican Republic and who have an interest in foreign policy, international business, international relations, international political economy, geopolitics, geo-economics, international law, human rights, economic development, comparative politics etc.

The tuition fee for the 2-year M.A. (DLB) is 400,000 Indian rupees (approximately US $8,888). The hostel living and boarding charges for 2 years are 200,000 Indian rupees (approximately US $4,444). So, the entire Masters education and living experience in India will amount to roughly $13,000, which is globally very affordable given the quality of our faculty and infrastructure. Please note that tuition fee and hostel charges are levied on an installment basis, semester-by-semester and not all in one lumpsum.

Admission to the M.A (DLB) programme will be through a competitive entrance exam that will be held on May 22nd, Sunday, via Email. All applicants will have to prepare for it by reading about international current affairs. I will personally guide Dominican students to prepare for this test and explain its structure and contents once your applications have been received. The procedure for submitting the admissions application is very simple. Just go to http://www.jsia.edu.in/AdmissionFormJSIA.aspx and fill in as many categories as possible in this form and click 'Submit'. Once the application is submitted, my Research Associate will contact you with details about the entrance exam on May 22nd as well as updates about various public events happening at JSIA.

Please visit www.jsia.edu.in for details of the course curriculum of the M.A (DLB) programme and its career prospects. You can read the M.A. (DLB) admissions brochure for 2011 here: http://jsia.edu.in/UploadedDocuments/JSIABrochure.pdf

When President Fernandez visited our campus and praised us as a very special institution, we wanted to concretise this endorsement from H.E. through a regular inflow of smart, dynamic and ambitious Dominican students who want to pursue careers in diplomacy, the UN, other intergovernmental organisations, international NGOs, think tanks and research institutions.

As you consider applying to our School and coming to India, don't miss a 30-minute television programme about our university's achievements and milestones (it includes footage of President Fernandez's lecture on our campus) at this link: http://www.jgu.edu.in/CNNIBN.aspx

You can also catch us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/JindalSIA?sk=info, where the Wall has lots of interesting debates by our faculty and students about current international events.

I can be directly contacted at 00918930110700 for additional queries or concerns you may have. We welcome your applications and interest in studying full-time in India at our world class institution.
